Essential Software
You just shouldn't run a computer without certain software. This is some of the stuff I use. I was a Mac head back when the Mac really mattered. Now I docilely follow the other sheep to the pasture that Bill hath made for me.-
If you have a broadband connection you MUST have a firewall. The free version of ZoneAlarm is all many people need.

You absolutely must have an anti-virus program. Norton and MacAfee are both good but AVG is free.
